Gingerbread, one of the most important cakes of winter’s and of course for Christmas. Gingerbread recipe is full of flavors of spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and dry ginger. But I add only ginger to my gingerbread. The lovely golden color of this bread is purely from molasses and is best to enjoy with a hot cup of tea or coffee. If you wish you can use your favorite icing on the Gingerbread.

Do you like winter??? I like winters for the food that we eat during this season. The spices used in the food are more than during the other seasons, this is because the spices keep us warm and help us fight with winter, and keep us healthy during this season. Are you wondering why I’m talking about the season and not about the cake? That is because this cake is filled with spices. Especially Ginger. Which helps you keep warm and helps your throat get rid of all the cold.

 

This gingerbread recipe is moist and less sugar, yet you get that caramel taste which is perfect for this season. I love to have my Gingerbread a little warm and with a hot cup of tea or coffee and my a cozy place at home.  Let’s quickly check out the video first and jump to the ingredients to make this golden beauty.

Ingredients of Gingerbread recipe:

  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (I didn’t use)
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder (I didn’t use)
  • 1 teaspoon allspice (I didn’t use)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1+1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2+1/2 cups of flour or maida
  • 1 cup boiling hot water

Step by step instructions to make this gingerbread recipe

  1. In a large mixing bowl take sugar and butter and whisk till butter is soft and pale
  2. Beak in the egg and whisk till the butter minutes doubles in size
  3. Next, add in the molasses and whisk again
  4. Now add ginger powder, salt and baking soda and whisk a little
  5. Next, add in the flour or maida and use a spatula to mix all the ingredients
  6. Finally, add the boiling water and whisk for 1 minute or till you find any lumps of flour in the batter

Note:

  • Make sure you are using the unsalted and room temperature butter
  • You may increase the amount of sugar and reduce the amount of molasses
  • I have not used other spices because I wanted to keep it simple
  • Whisking is very important in this recipe, so prefer using a machine than using your hand
  • The use of boiling water make this cake moist and increase the texture of the gingerbread
