Methi Tuwar Daal Recipe

Serves: 2-3

Ingredients:

• For the Daal:
• 1 tbsp oil
• 1 chopped onion
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
• 1 green chili, slit
• 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
• 1 tsp red chili powder
• 1 cup chopped methi (fenugreek) leaves
• 1 tomato, chopped
• 1 cup soaked tuwar daal (split pigeon peas)
• 2 glasses of water
• For the Tempering:
• 1 tsp oil
• 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
• 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
• 1 tsp chopped garlic
• 1 dry red chili
• 1 sprig curry leaves

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Daal:
• Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker over medium heat.
• Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
• Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and slit green chili. Cook for a minute until the raw aroma disappears.
• Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
• Incorporate the chopped methi leaves and cook until they wilt.
• Add the chopped tomato and cook until it softens and oil starts to separate from the mixture.
• Rinse the soaked tuwar daal and add it to the cooker.
• Pour in 2 glasses of water and stir everything together.
• Close the pressure cooker lid and cook until the daal is soft and cooked through (about 3-4 whistles on medium heat).
• Once the pressure releases naturally, open the lid and check the consistency of the daal. If it’s too thick, you can add a little water and adjust the salt according to taste.
